At first they tried to take the boogie boards out, but it wasn't working out really well. Then Kyle taught them how to duck under the big waves and wait for a good one and ride it in.
As you can see (grandmas) Kyle stayed very close to Evan the whole time. The other two were naturals and loved it. They totally fell in love with the waves, which was a little unnerving.
There are kids inside that wave....
It only took about an hour and they were totally exhausted. That is the best part of the ocean.
As for Matty.....don't you fret
She was as happy as a clam in the tide pool the whole time.
Another day we took the surf boards and actually attempted surfing, but it is something that requires some teaching and knowledge of the waves that we didn't have, and none of our potential teachers ever panned out, so they just had fun being beat down by the waves.
One time when George was headed down backwards, the timing was perfect and a huge wave just swallowed him whole. We laughed like crazy. He was a little more cautious after that.
Kyle took Matty out one time, but it was short lived, and she stayed on the beach with me taking pictures and playing in the sand. Evan knew when he had had enough too and would take breaks with us.
Evan was our only casualty and we buried him at the beach that he loved!

Yes, those are all Kyle. The waves were too strong for the kids to try the big surf board. They did discover Hawaiian sledding though, and enjoyed letting the waves eat them up at the shoreline.
